Cooperative learning is a key strategy that is beneficial not only for my ESL students, but any learner, as it fosters peer interaction, which enhances the development of language and the learning of concepts and content. My class is designed so that students work in teams of four. This way, they can break into pairs for certain activities, and then get back together for the next task. I have observed that they are more motivated, are learning to express themselves with greater confidence and solve problems. Cooperative learning is a key strategy to encourage learners to:
- Stay engaged and motivated
- Interact with each other
- Communicate and collaborate
- Develop critical thinking skills
This is all good for preparing our students for their future, living in the 21st century.
